Movement Without Borders is a perfect complement to PS21/Chatham PATHWAYS, our annual series of creative placemaking that fosters collaboration between regional and local artists and the community to enhance cultural life and well-being. Led by contemporary performance and theater luminaries, Movement Without Borders brings yoga, Pilates, exercise, dance, and self-expression to young and old. Instructors are drawn from talented professionals based in the Hudson Valley, visiting from Bennington’s MFA dance program, and elsewhere.

Movement Without Borders sessions are held in our sprung-floor Dance Barn, Pavilion Theater stage, and on PS21’s 100 acres of trails, open spaces, meadows, woodlands, and orchards. Open to the public from dawn to dusk, the grounds offer stunning views of the Catskills from the hills behind our theater. These priceless resources are available for our artists and our community, and there’s no better time than this spring and summer to get acquainted with this splendid “backyard.”

Parking is available at the following address:

Please bring your own mask, water, mat, and towel. Masks are required for all Movement Without Borders sessions.

Pilates with Peggy Wallin-Hart

Thursdays, beginning May 13, 5:30 pm

As a movement educator and director of Spring Inside Pilates, Peggy brings an intimate understanding of the body and a spirit of playful creativity to her work. Her passion for exploring the world through movement has taken her from the stage to the Pilates studio, where for 20 years she has guided students in their own kinesthetic explorations. Peggy’s classes marry the precision and whole-body flow of traditional Pilates with creative sequences that draw from embodied anatomy, fascial & neuroscience. A Chatham resident, Peggy is thrilled to be joining PS21 in supporting artists and our local community, teaching movement as a tool to connect to ourselves, others, and the world around us.

About PS21

A vibrant center for contemporary performance in the Hudson Valley, PS21 “presents work that challenges and invites” (The New York Times): adventurous productions by leading and emerging American and international artists in music, dance, and theater, and visionaries creating entirely new genres. On our open-air Pavilion Theater stage, across our expansive, unspoiled grounds, and in the diverse surrounding communities, PS21 cultivates and presents productions that transcend aesthetic boundaries and revitalize existing artistic languages and grammars. Throughout the year, we host developmental residencies for dancers, musicians, actors, and creators of original, even unclassifiable new work. Rooted in community collaboration, PS21’s programming engages creatively with critical global and social issues. It is a mecca for innovative and original artistic voices, a destination for performance that can be experienced nowhere else in the region. PS21’s Pavilion Theater is a green-energy marvel surrounded by 100 acres of unspoiled meadows, trails, and woodlands that are a haven to wildlife and visitors across the region.  Integrated into our unspoiled campus, the theater embodies our commitments to the public: open, inviting, and optimized for their enjoyment and encouraging citizen expression and participation.
